Our Story
Why We Exist
Mission Mountain Advisors was founded on a simple but consequential observation: many generous people and organizations give without a strategy. Not because they don't care — they care deeply — but because no one has ever helped them think it through.
Wealth managers focus on tax efficiency. Nonprofits advocate for their own missions. And the donor — the person whose generosity makes it all possible — is left to navigate a complex landscape largely on their own.
We built Mission Mountain Advisors to fill that gap. We sit entirely on the donor's side of the table — with no financial stake in where you give, no organizational agenda to advance, and no interest except helping you give in a way that is deeply aligned with who you are and the change you want to create.
The name reflects that belief. Mountains demand intention. Reaching a summit requires knowing where you're headed, choosing the right path, and taking one deliberate step at a time. We think giving well works the same way.
Our Philosophy
The philanthropy industry has long been organized around mechanics — tax vehicles, grant structures, reporting frameworks. These things matter, but they are means, not ends.
Our philosophy is that the most important questions in philanthropy are not financial or operational. They are personal. What do you believe? What change do you want to see? Who is best positioned to create it? What does success look like to you?
We have built our entire process — the What–Who–How model — around those questions. We believe that when donors have genuine clarity about their values and vision, the strategic and operational decisions that follow become far more natural, far more confident, and far more impactful.
We also believe in leaving clients more capable, not more dependent. Our foundational engagement is designed to give you a framework you can use on your own — so that every giving decision you make, with or without us, is grounded in something real.
Our Positioning
We operate in the space between traditional wealth management and nonprofit consulting — a gap that has long gone underserved.
We have no financial relationship with any nonprofit organization. Our only interest is helping you give well. That independence is foundational to everything we do.
We begin every engagement with a genuine exploration of your values and vision — not a product pitch, a tax strategy, or a list of organizations to consider.
We build frameworks and capabilities you own. Our goal is a client who gives with greater confidence and clarity — whether or not we are in the room.
What We Stand For
01
We ask the questions others skip. Understanding what you truly care about — and why — is the foundation of everything we build together.
02
We tell you what we actually think. Our recommendations are grounded in honest analysis, not what is easiest or most expected.
03
We work alongside you, not above you. Your values, your vision, your decisions — we are here to inform and support, never to override.
04
Generosity is only as powerful as the change it creates. We keep that standard front and center in every recommendation we make.
05
Our goal is to leave you more capable, more confident, and more connected to your giving — not more dependent on us.
The Team
Our team brings together deep experience in nonprofit strategy, philanthropic advising, and organizational effectiveness — shaped by years working inside foundations, alongside major philanthropists, and with the nonprofits that depend on thoughtful, sustained support.

Jason Smith
Founder & Principal Advisor
Jason Smith has spent his career at the intersection of strategy, organizational effectiveness, and the nonprofit sector. As the founder and principal counsel of Stillwater Strategy Partners, he has worked alongside foundations, nonprofits, and philanthropic families to sharpen their thinking, strengthen their organizations, and increase their impact.
That work gave Jason a front-row view of a persistent gap: the donors whose generosity made so much possible rarely had a trusted advisor in their corner — someone who understood the nonprofit landscape deeply, sat entirely on their side of the table, and could help them give with the same intentionality they brought to every other major decision in their lives.
Mission Mountain Advisors is his answer to that gap. Jason brings to every client relationship a rare combination of nonprofit sector expertise, strategic clarity, and a genuine belief that generosity — done well — is one of the most powerful forces for change in the world.
Every engagement begins with a discovery conversation — a no-obligation call to explore your goals and determine whether we're the right fit for each other.
